What's in a Negroni?

The Negroni is an Italian cocktail that has surged in popularity in the last few years. Named after Italian Count Camillo Negroni, who reportedly ordered the (then common) Milano-Torino which is equal parts red vermouth and campari with extra gin: 'I need more alcohol in my alcohol'. Now found at every hip bar in the US, there are many creative twists on this cocktail classic, but the original is simply this: Gin, Campari, Vermouth, soda and an orange twist. Directions:

1. Keep liquors in the fridge overnight or until cold. Pour ingredients in equal parts into a thermos or container of your choice and store in the cooler.
2. Start your campfire.
3. Pour Montenegroni into your drinking vessel of choice. Rocks. No rocks. Doesn’t matter.
4. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Quickly shake gin, vermouth, bitter liqueur, grapefruit juice and a small pinch of sea salt. Strain in Collins glass over ice and soda water. Add another small pinch of sea salt. Garnish with a long grapefruit peel.
