Cocktails with Beer

There is no hiding that Maine is making some great beer these days! Some of our local brewers have made it on the Fastest Growing Breweries in the US list put together by the Brewers Association! 

We love the varieties of beer you can find now but have you ever tried using beer as an ingredient in a cocktail? Beer mixes well with lots of other ingredients, it can add bubbles to your drink and it can add sweetness or bitterness. You should give it a try!

Here are a few cocktails that Take Beer to the Next Level:

Lemon Tell You Somethin’ Honey

Ingredients:

• 1.5 Parts Auchentoshan American Oak Single Malt Scotch Whisky
• 0.5 Part Honey Syrup
• 1 Part Lemon Juice
• 3 Parts Wheat Beer
• Lemon

Directions:

Build in a tall glass or beer stein filled with ice. Stir. Garnish with lemon peel.
(Honey Syrup: 1 part honey to 1 part water, boil and cool before using).

It’s Bitter to Be Hoppy

Ingredients:

• 1.5 Parts Auchentoshan American Oak Single Malt Scotch Whisky
• 0.5 Part Aperol
• 0.25 Part Grapefruit Juice
• 6 Dashes Bitters
• 2.5 Parts Ipa Beer
• Lemon

Directions:

Stir all ingredients and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

Beer & Loathing

Ingredients:

• 1.5 Parts Auchentoshan American Oak Single Malt Scotch Whisky
• 0.5 Part Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur
• 4 Parts Porter Ale

Directions:

Shake the Ancho Reyes and Three Wood until well chilled, strain into glass with 1 large ice cube. Top with the porter and stir to mix.

Beam & Hops

Ingredients:

• 1.5 Parts Jim Beam Original
• 0.75 Part Elderflower Liqueur
• 4 Parts Ipa Beer
• Basil
• 1 Lemon

Directions:

In a Collins glass, muddle the basil leaves with the Jim Beam and St. Elder Liqueur. Briefly shake with ice. Top with IPA and stir briefly. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
