We hope your favorites win and we hope our cheat sheet and cocktail sippers help make your night more fun!
Production Design and Musical Score
Black Panther was what every moviegoer was talking about in 2018! It looks like this superhero film may take home the honors for its stunning production and musical score.
Wakanda is the fictional country in which Black Panther is set. This delicious cocktail is a beautiful and vibrant sipper.
Original Screenplay
The Favourite is looking like a contender for best original screenplay. This witty tale of Queen Anne in 18th century England follows three ladies as they navigate war, manipulation, and relationships. In one memorable scene, members of the Queen's court throw blood oranges at a guest; we think this Blood Orange Basil Martini is a better use of the crimson citrus.
Best Documentary Feature
One of the year's most notorious documentary films features the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, aka Notorious R.B.G. This strong cocktail is inspired by the Best Documentary Feature contender RBG.
Best Actor
Whether or not you like Queen or the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, the experts agree, Rami Malek’s performance made the movie. It looks like he could take home the Oscar for his stellar performance. The real-life Freddie Mercury was known to sip on Stoli and Tonics at night. These easy, breezy cocktails are a great and easy companion for your Oscar viewing.
Best Actress
Glenn Close may finally take home an Oscar for her starring role in The Wife. She has been nominated 6 times before and not won the award, we are hoping this year is different. Pinkies up as we toast to Glenn with a cocktail as sophisticated and sweet as her.
Best Picture
Green Book and Roma seem to be the top contenders for best picture. Green Book follows an unlikely friendship in the 1960s with a rough Italian bouncer who is hired to drive an African-American classical pianist who is touring the south. Roma follows a middle-class family’s maid and her family in Mexico City. The Paloma is a popular cocktail in Mexico City (even more popular than the margarita). It is a refreshing blend of tequila, grapefruit, and soda water.
Our Favorite Oscars Snub
Crazy Rich Asians was the highest grossing romantic comedy in over a decade, but it was passed over when Oscar nominations were doled out. If you want to bring this movie to your party, try the Singnapore Fling, a Cointreau cocktail inspired by the film.
