Netflix and Chill-ed - Dark Fantasy Fix

Posted:

Netflix and Chill-ed takes a dark twist. Put your feet up, mix one of these perfectly paired cocktails, and get lost in another world!

Game of Thrones

If you haven’t seen it, you’ve at least seen the “Winter is Coming” meme about 1000 times. But there’s a reason it’s so popular; with nail-biting storylines and a willingness to kill off those characters that most shows would magically save season after season, it’s an easy way to blow an entire snow day, once winter finally comes to you. Straight and to the point, the Boulevardier is a Negroni that replaces the gin with whiskey; it’s a strong pair with some mouth-dropping moments in Winterfell.

Black Mirror

Inspired by shows like The Twilight Zone, each episode Black Mirror paints a picture of what life would be like if all those crazy sci-fi ideas weren’t fiction after all. What if you had an implant that would record everything to did, said, or saw? Whoa. If you’re a fan of creepy, thought-provoking shows that you can’t quite look away from, add this to your list. With its storied history that falls somewhere between fact and fiction, we figured Absinthe was a perfect match with a show that makes you think just a little bit differently.

Ingredients:

Directions:

1. In a cocktail shaker add the absinthe and anisette.
2. Fill with ice and shake well until chilled.
3. Strain into a julep cup filled with crushed ice.
4. Top with additional ice and garnish with the mint sprig.

WestWorld

Robots, the Wild West, theme parks, and murder may not normally go together, but in Westworld they do, and with some pretty mind-blowing moments. It’s smart, it’s philosophical, it’s dark, and it’ll have you looking at your coworkers and loved ones with maybe a little bit more curiosity. While straight whiskey might be a truer pair for the Old West, we thought this twist on a Bloody Mary might be a little more fun, especially with the tequila to step it up a notch.

Dark

Technically this show is in German, so fine, you’ll have to do some reading, but it is definitely worth the effort. Two children inexplicably disappear from an otherwise quaint town, it’s a scary enough start, but throw some supernatural time travel wrinkles, plus corporate cover-ups and you’ll find yourself sucked in in no time. Not to mention it’s beautifully shot—you know, in a dark, creepy way. As it’s gloomy and rainy seemingly throughout the entire show, ward off the shivers with a Hot Toddy.
